Crafting Secure Passwords
Are you like me? Do you groan a little every time you have to come up with a new password? Here are some tips for easily crafting effective passphrases:
1) Length Matters: Aim for at least 16 characters. Longer passphrases are generally more secure.
2) Use a Phrase: Create a memorable sentence or a combination of unrelated words. For example, “BlueSkyDrinksWithCats!” is both fun and secure.
3) Mix It Up: Incorporate a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. This adds complexity and makes it harder to guess.
4) Avoid Common Phrases: Steer clear of easily guessable phrases or personal information, like birthdays or names.
5) Use Substitutions: Replace letters with similar-looking numbers or symbols (e.g., “E” with “3” or “A” with “@”).
6) Make It Personal: Use a phrase that has personal significance to you but isn’t easily guessed by others.
Using these guidelines, you too can craft secure, easy to remember passphrases.
