BOWLING
The HU bowling teams kicked off the season this past weekend at the Bowlero Southern Classic in Marietta, Ga. Both squads started out slowly but finished the weekend strong with the women taking 10th out of 17 teams while the men placed 13th out of 21 schools.
The Bowlero Southern Classic is the longest tournament format of the regular season with six team games on Saturday followed by 20 Baker games on Sunday.
The Huntington women’s team turned in a 4986 for six team games (831/game average) on Saturday to be sitting in 13th place going into day two. The Foresters shot a 3703 for 20 Baker games (185.15/game average) on Saturday to move up three spots into 10th for the weekend. Junior Brooklyn Suzuki led the way individually for Shockey’s team with a 32nd place finish out of 134 bowlers. She averaged 178 for her six games.
The HU men’s team followed a similar pattern having gotten off to a slow start but picked up the pace as the tourney wore on. After finding themselves in last place after game one, the Foresters got back on track to finish the day in 16th place with a pin total of 5524 (920.6/game average). Sunday was a much better day for the men’s team as evidenced by their score of 3868 for Sunday’s 20 Baker games (193.4/game average). They climbed to 13th by day’s end to finish the tournament with a grand total of 9392 pins.
Sophomore Dale Horstmann had a banner weekend, setting a new program record by posting the school’s first ever perfect 300 in game six on Saturday. He ended up taking 8th out of 231 bowlers with a six-game total of 1333 (222/game average).
The Foresters are back in action this weekend for the Raider Classic in Dayton, Ohio.
