BOWLING
The Huntington bowling teams were in action last weekend at the Roto-Grip Raider Classic hosted by Wright State University at Beaver-Vu Bowl in Dayton, Ohio. The tournament format was five team games on Saturday followed by 16 Baker games on Sunday.
The Forester women finished the tournament with an outstanding fourth place finish out of 17 teams. They qualified for match play where they fought hard and just missed making the championship match. The team scored a total of 7720 pins for the weekend.
Amanda-Lynn Turner led the way with an eighth place finish out the 128 bowlers. She averaged a solid 202 and scored a total pinfall of 1011 for five games.
“I was really happy for the girls,” said Coach Mike Shockey. “They have been working really hard to come together as a team and this weekend showed their potential on what they can accomplish.
The HU men didn’t fare as well to finish 11th out of 20 teams. They tallied a total of 7893 pins for the weekend. Dale Horstmann led the team individually with a 23rd place finish out of 195 bowlers.
“We hit one pair of lanes that we just never figured out the right moves and that put us in a huge hole Saturday after the third game,” said Shockey. “We fought hard and climbed back up to the best finish possible. Once the guys put a whole day together, we are going to be a tough team to beat week in and week out.”
The NAIA Invitational is up next for Shockey and crew in Jeffersonville (Ky.) on November 22-23.
