Creation vs. Evolution, Adam & Eve, and Jesus and the Genome

In the spring 2025 semester, I’ll teach PL 440/BT 440 — Religion and Scientific Thought. In this course, we will explore questions about the historical Adam and Eve and how contemporary Christians understand the Genesis creation account in light of the theory of biological evolution. Another topic this course covers is the Incarnation, the process of evolution, modes of divine action, the nature of rationality, morality, chance, and love, and even the meaning of life. Grounded alike in the history and philosophy of science, Christian theology, and the scientific basis for evolutionary biology and genetics, our textbook discusses diverse thinkers, both medieval and modern, ranging from Augustine and Aquinas to contemporary voices like Richard Dawkins and Michael Ruse.

In addition to covering these fascinating topics, if I have more than 15 students in this class, I will invite, via Zoom, some of the authors who contributed chapters to the two textbooks we will read.

This is an excellent educational opportunity, so I encourage you to take it; you will never regret it!
