BOWLING
The Forester bowling teams were back in action last weekend for the NAIA BCA Invitational in Louisville, (Ky.). After two days of competition, the HU women finished in 9th place out of 17 teams while the men brought home a 6th place finish out 17 squads.
The tournament format featured five team games on Friday as one tournament followed by 25 Baker games on Saturday. The tourney then cut to the top eight schools for single elimination match play to determine an overall winner.
The women finished tenth on Friday with a pin count of 4,294. Saturday didn’t go any better with another 10th place finish with a Baker score of 4,018 that led to the women missing match play and their final 9th place finish. Lilly Pryor led the way individually by turning in a score of 928 (185 per game average) for a 21st place finish.
“Both patterns played tough for the ladies,” noted Coach Mike Shockey. “Between the lane surface and the pattern choice it was tough for anyone to create the proper angles for consistent carry.”
The Forester men had a much better weekend. Friday was a great day with the men finishing third through five games with a score of 5,196. Saturday was a much lower scoring pace for them having totaled a 4,597 in Baker play to finish 7th and move onto match play where they faced Saint Xavier in a best of seven match. After winning the first two games, the Foresters missed an adjustment that gave the Saints the edge to win 4-2.
“We failed to match up Saturday and find anything consistent in how to play the pattern,” commented Coach Shockey on the men’s performance.
Next up are the first two Crossroads League one-day tournaments slated for December 6-7 in Fort Wayne.
