MEN’S BASKETBALL
Head Coach Kory Alford notched his 100th career win in the #18 HU men’s basketball team’s 109-60 routing of Goshen College at Ruth Gunden Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. It’s taken the Huntington general less than five seasons to reach this milestone win.
The 49-point difference is one of the most lopsided wins the Foresters have enjoyed under Alford’s tenure. Under his direction, HU has tallied 13 wins of at least 40 points while his teams have hit the century mark on 19 occasions. Currently in his fifth season, his coaching record stands at 100-44 for a 69.4 win percentage.
On this given afternoon, the Foresters led from start to finish, establishing a permanent double-digit advantage on a Drew Goodline three at the 11-minute mark of the first half. It was also a contest where every member of Alford’s crew got in on the action and scored at least two points.
After taking a 49-31 lead into the break, HU poured it on in the final 20 minutes. As a team, the guests missed just eight shots in the second frame which included scorching the nets from deep by going 9-for-11 for 81.8 percent. With just under five minutes to go, it was Landon Biegel’s second of three treys that put his team in triple digits.
Biegel finished with 11 points as one of four Foresters to land in double figures. Lane Sparks topped all scorers with 29 points, his tenth 20+ point game this season. He also pulled down eight rebounds, three on the offensive glass. Goodline added 17 points, six rebounds and six assists while Landen Jordan tossed in 16 points and corralled a game-best nine rebounds.
Playing against his former school, Kaden Johnson got the starting nob at the five spot and finished with nine points, five rebounds and two assists.
Richard Wilson led Goshen (5-14, 0-9) with 13 points and seven rebounds. Marcus Northern netted ten points. Today’s disparity is GC’s largest loss of the season as they remain on the prowl for their first conference win.
With the first round of league play complete, HU (15-4) is sitting in fourth place in the standings, tied with Spring Arbor, with a 5-4 CL record. The Foresters are back in action Saturday with a road trip to #RV Indiana Wesleyan.
