The HU baseball team celebrated their first win of the season Saturday afternoon by topping Midway 3-1 at Georgia Gwinnett’s Grizzly Baseball Complex before dropping a 13-3 decision to the host Grizzlies a few hours later.

The win over Midway avenged a 3-2 loss to the Eagles 24 hours earlier. RJ Anglin earned the win on the bump having tossed the first 5.2 innings where he scattered six hits, gave up a run and three walks while fanning nine. Mason Meyer took over in the sixth on his way to locking up the win, logging two strikeouts and issuing two base on balls, to pick up the save.

Huntington’s offense was spread across three innings with their first run in the second coming on Beyonce Paco Paulina’s bases loaded RBI-fielder’s choice after a walk on either side of two hit batters. Dylan Rost doubled in HU’s second run in the third and then it was Deklan Thompson’s single into left center that brought another run in two frames later.

Parker Richards, Ryne Wheeler’s pinch runner, scored HU’s last two runs after Wheeler drew back-to-back walks. Frame’s squad was up 3-0 before the Eagles finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth.

The Foresters wrapped up their time in Georgia with a lopsided 13-3 loss to #3 GGC. The hosts put up four runs before HU touched home on a fielding error in the fourth. The bottom of the frame proved the Grizzlies most productive at bat as they cranked out three hits and drew four walks to plate five runs to jet in front 9-1.

Huntington took advantage of another fielding error in the fifth, this time scoring twice. It made for a 9-3 ball game but GGC had the final say, scoring four insurance runs after that to ensure the win.

Tyler Papenbrock took the loss. The senior southpaw tossed three frames, giving up eight hits, nine runs, one of which was unearned, and two walks while striking out three. HU posted six hits, the highest recorded in their four games over the weekend, with Beldon Glasgow and Braden Kauffman each hammering out a pair.

The Foresters (1-3) head to Alabama next weekend for a four-game series with Olivet Nazarene.
