MEN’S BASKETBALL

After honoring their five seniors before tip-off, the 14th-ranked Forester men’s basketball team carried their celebration into the contest by way of a 91-56 win over Goshen Saturday afternoon inside Platt Arena.

Just like January’s meeting between these two clubs, the Foresters led the entire afternoon. The outcome was never in doubt for Alford and crew with the indicator undeniable just before halftime when HU turned a 26-18 lead into 17-point difference of 42-25 by the break.

Midway through the second frame, the lead stood at 20 but the Foresters weren’t satisfied with that gap so they spent the rest of the afternoon growing their advantage by another 15 points for the 35-point blowout. Limiting the Maple Leafs to 56 points is the third time this year HU has held an opponent to less than 60 points.

The Foresters dominated every statistical category, most notably outscoring their guests in the paint 46-28. Bench play was also lopsided with HU holding the upper hand at 42-23. HU finished 35-for-68 from the field (51.5 percent) while holding GC to 21 field goals at a clip of 33.3 percent.

Lane Sparks topped all scorers with 24 points in addition to pulling down ten boards for the double double. Jackson Paul and Landon Biegel came off the bench to add 14 and 12 points respectively with all of Biegel’s points coming beyond the arc. Maximus Gizzi and Landen Jordan each netted 11 points while Kaden Johnson ended up with ten.

Richard Wilson finished with 13 points to pace the Maple Leafs (5-23, 0-18). Judah Simfukwe and Saiveon Williams dropped in 11 and ten points respectively. With this loss, Goshen’ season comes to a close having gone winless in conference play to be denied a spot in the CL tourney.

Huntington wraps up the regular season with a 22-6 record which includes a 12-6 league record. As the 3rd seed in the Crossroads League tournament, HU will host 6th-seeded Saint Francis on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in quarterfinal action.
