WOMEN’S TENNIS

The HU women’s tennis team is off to a hot start over spring break having already picked up two road wins. After notching a 5-2 win over Georgetown, the Foresters took it to Coastal Georgia by way of a 4-1 decision.

Against the Tigers on Saturday, Huntington’s first point came as a result of wins at #1 and #2 doubles with wins at the first four spots in singles action wrapping up the overall victory. Isabella Herrera beat Molly Archer (6-0, 6-1) at #1 singles, Addison Mast won in three sets over Maddie Gill (6-1, 3-6, 6-4) at #2 singles, Tiziana Rizzato recorded the win over Lindsey Rikkerink (6-3, 6-3) at #3 singles and Sofia Kurshinskaia slipped past Abby Moss (5-7, 6-4, 10-8) at #4 singles.

The match against the Mariners on Monday saw Eckert’s crew pick up the point in doubles with Rizzato and Kurshinskaia outlasting Karlie Scott Kersey and Kourtny Kosto at the No. 2 spot 6-6 (8-6) with the second W at No. 3 by default.

Rizzato was a double winner on the day after topping Felicia Elixmann in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) at #3 singles as was Kurshinskaia who cruised to a win over Kosto (6-2, 6-2) at #4 singles. The third point in singles was by default at the #6 spot. Play was ceased once HU had logged four points for the win.
