More than Words: Cultural, Spiritual, and Personal Lessons Learned from Teaching English as a New Language

This is a reminder about the talk by Dr. Shoshannah Hernandez this week:

On behalf of The Center for Non-Western Studies, I would like to invite you to a public lecture by Dr. Shoshannah Hernandez. Her talk is titled “More than Words: Cultural, Spiritual, and Personal Lessons Learned from Teaching English as a New Language.”

Description: Teaching English to speakers of other languages isn’t just about grammar and vocabulary — it’s a journey of cultural discovery, personal growth, and unexpected revelations. In this event, Dr. Shoshannah Hernandez, Assistant Professor of Education and Director of the Institute for TESOL Studies, will share experiences from 20+ years in the field and dive into the lessons learned from stepping into the world of language learners. Explore how experiences with people from different languages and cultures can challenge your perspectives, deepen your empathy for others, shape your views on faith, and even transform the way you see yourself.

Venue: The classroom in the RichLyn Library

Date and Time: March 26, 2025, from 7:00-8:15 p.m.
