The #RV Forester men’s soccer team showed their resolve Monday evening, grinding out a 1-1 tie against 19th-ranked Indiana Tech (2-1) inside King Stadium. The result avenges last fall’s narrow 1-0 setback to the Warriors and showcased HU’s ability to stand toe-to-toe with one of the NAIA’s perennial powers.

Indiana Tech, winners of six straight WHAC tournament championships, entered the match with a proven pedigree and carried that momentum into the first half as the aggressors. Their persistence paid off in the 30th minute when Tramaine Lawson broke through with the night’s opening goal, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The break proved timely for Huntington as Coach Nick Potter’s crew regrouped and returned to the pitch with renewed energy. Just minutes into the second half, HU nearly equalized when a dangerous strike rattled the crossbar. The breakthrough finally came in the 54th minute when Indiana Tech transfer Douglas Appiah Kubi lofted a perfectly placed chip from midfield that landed at the feet of Thiago Fernando, who buried a laser inside the far post to even the score at 1-1.

The final 35 minutes featured end-to-end action, with both sides pressing for a game-winner. The Foresters held a slim 12-10 edge in shots, but neither squad could find the back of the net again as the defenses held firm. Goalkeeper Jorge Gonzalez anchored the HU backline with six saves to preserve the result.

With the draw, Huntington moves to 0-2-2 on the season and now turns its attention to Saturday’s road trip to Madonna. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
