WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The Huntington University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday, battling through a five-set thriller against Campbellsville before bouncing back with a sweep of Indiana Tech. The Foresters now stand at 9–1 overall on the season.  

Campbellsville University handed the Foresters their first loss of the season on Saturday morning, edging the Foresters 3–2 (25–11, 16–25, 27–25, 21–25, 15–12). The Foresters bounced back in the finale of the Amber McClure Fayerweather Memorial Tournament hosted by Taylor University with a decisive 3-0 sweep of Indiana Tech (25-16,34-32,25-21). Indiana Tech was the second team receiving votes in the preseason NAIA poll that Huntington has beaten this season.  

In the morning match, Maggie Hollon paced the Foresters with 16 kills (.394), while Leah Carter added 12 kills and Haley Kruse chipped in 14. Setters Lauren Ross and Kennedy Urban combined for 54 assists, while libero Layla Meyer turned in a strong defensive effort with 17 digs. Despite a late push in the fifth, Huntington was edged by the Tigers in the deciding frame. 

The Foresters regrouped quickly in the afternoon match, sweeping Indiana Tech 3–0 (25–16, 25–21, 25–21) behind a balanced attack and relentless defense. Hollon once again led the charge with 13 kills (.385), joined by Maisyn Robrock with 10 kills and Kruse with 8 kills and 5 service aces. Ross guided the offense with 23 assists, and Meyer was dominant in the back row, collecting 26 digs. Huntington tallied 42 kills and 12 service aces in the victory while holding the Warriors to just .129 hitting. 

“We had discussed as a team how we handle a loss this season before it ever happened,” said coach Kelsey Herber. “I was proud of how we learned , grew, and competed at our highest level after adversity. This weekend prepared us for conference play this week.” 

With the split, Huntington heads into conference play with a 9–1 record. The Foresters will host the University of Saint Francis on Wednesday at Platt Arena . First serve is set for 7:00pm.
