Information Meetings Regarding Core Curriculum Transition

Huntington students,

Exciting news! Over the past year, Huntington University has worked to revise its general education/core curriculum. The new core, known as HU Foundations, will take effect in fall 2026. HU Foundations continues the historic HU mission to educate and equip men and women to impact the world for Christ through scholarship and service. HU Foundations is distinctively Christian, intentionally vocational, and in the tradition of the liberal arts. Previously, the core curriculum required 49 credit hours for a Bachelor of Science degree and 61 hours for a Bachelor of Arts degree. HU Foundations will require 40 credit hours for either the Bachelor of Arts degree or the Bachelor of Science degree. While students will still need a minimum of 120 credit hours to graduate, the reduced core will provide greater flexibility for credit transfer and even more space to pursue a double major, add a minor, earn a certificate, study abroad, or get a running start in graduate school.

If you are a graduating senior this year, you will fulfill all of the requirements of the existing core curriculum as reflected in your graduation plan of study. The conversation around the new core doesn’t apply to you.

For those of you who are currently enrolled at Huntington University and are not graduating this year, we have created a flexible pathway for you as we transition from our current general education curriculum to HU Foundations. Your academic advisor will work with you individually to determine the best pathway for you.

We will hold three information sessions this week for students who will need to complete the core curriculum over the next few years of transition. We will introduce you to the core curriculum, and we will explain various pathways to complete your general education requirements. We want you to have this information as you prepare to register for spring classes when you return from Fall Break. We will also be posting a recording of the information session later this week and preparing an FAQ document to address questions that arise in the information sessions.

The information sessions will be held in Longaker Recital Hall (lower level of Merillat Centre for the Arts).

The sessions will be held at the following times:

  • Monday, September 22, 11:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, September 23, 4:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, September 24, 12:00 p.m.

We look forward to introducing you to HU Foundations and answering questions you may have about how this change might impact your educational journey.
