MEN’S SOCCER
The Forester men’s soccer team dropped its Crossroads League opener Wednesday night, falling 3-0 to 15th-ranked Marian at Ascension St. Vincent Field.
Despite the scoreline, the Foresters carried the run of play, outshooting the Knights 13-9 and putting eight shots on frame compared to MU’s four. But efficiency proved to be the difference as Marian converted three of their four shots on goal while HU was unable to find the back of the net.
The Knights set the tone midway through the first half, striking twice in a six-minute span to grab a 2-0 lead by the 22nd minute. They added an insurance tally in the 69th minute to cap the convincing win.
Douglas Appiah Kubi was among HU’s most dangerous attackers, posting three shots on target, but MU keeper Ricardo Marquez proved up to the task with eight saves on the night.
With the result, Marian (6-2-2, 1-0 CL) picks up its second straight win over HU, though the Foresters had not lost to the Knights since 2015 prior to last year. Huntington (2-4-3, 0-1 CL) will look to bounce back at home on Saturday when they host Grace at 2:00 p.m.
