MEN’S SOCCER
The Huntington men’s soccer team came up just short against No. 22 Grace (8-1-2, 2-0) Saturday afternoon at King Stadium, falling 2-1 in a heated Crossroads League matchup. The Lancers have had the upper hand in the rivalry as of late, now owning three straight wins over HU.
The opening half saw both sides battle for control with neither finding the back of the net. The visitors broke through just after the break when Luis Munoz struck in the 53rd minute to put Grace on top.
Trailing late, the Foresters manufactured a thrilling equalizer in the 82nd minute. After intercepting a pass near midfield, Douglas Appiah Kubi sent a chip into the box that Jonathan Ruiz chased down, blasting home the tying goal to ignite the HU sideline.
The celebration was short-lived, however, as the Lancers regained the lead less than three minutes later when Vasco Tavares converted off a corner kick to secure what proved the game-winner.
The rivalry lived up to its reputation as an emotional, physical clash, with the Foresters ultimately slipping to 2-5-3 on the year and 0-2 in Crossroads League play. HU now hits the road to take on Spring Arbor Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
