BOWLING

The Huntington University bowling teams hit the lanes in Indianapolis over the weekend to compete in the Columbia 300 Western Shootout hosted at the Western Bowl. The two-day event featured six team games and 16 Baker games, with teams facing a different oil pattern each day—adding an extra layer of challenge and strategy to the competition.

The Forester women finished 22nd out of 29 teams with a weekend total of 7,572 pins. Leading the way for HU was Emma Large, who placed 38th in a field of 228 bowlers with an impressive 182.5 average over six games.

“I am really happy with the direction of the women’s team,” said Coach Mike Shockey. “They’re fun to be around and communicate well with both the coaches and each other.”

On the men’s side, the Foresters battled inconsistency throughout the weekend, finishing 25th out of 29 schools with a two-day total of 8,663 pins. David McLaughlin paced the team with a 207.2 average, finishing 44th out of 288 competitors.

“The guys have the talent to be a force at tournaments this season,” commented Shockey. “They work hard in practice—we just need to find that same consistency in competition. With a new practice warm-up routine, I believe we’ll start seeing results soon.”

Next up for Coach Shockey’s crew is the Bowlero Southern Classic in Marietta, Georgia, November 1–2.
