WOMEN’S GOLF

Freshman standout Magnolia Miller of the Huntington women’s golf team has been named the Crossroads League Golfer of the Week, marking the second time this season the Greenwood native has received the conference honor.

Miller earned the recognition following a stellar performance at Huntington’s spring-opening Island Pointe Collegiate last week in Kodak, Tennessee. Competing on the par-72, 5,805-yard layout at Island Pointe Golf Club, the freshman claimed low medalist honors with a two-round score of 154 (+10).

Miller opened the tournament with a 75 in Thursday’s first round before following it up with a 79 on Friday to finish seven strokes ahead of her nearest competitor.

The victory marked Miller’s third tournament title of the season, establishing a new Huntington program record for individual wins in a single season. Her performance also helped power the Foresters to a second-place team finish in the eight-team field to open the spring campaign.

Miller and the Foresters return to action March 30-31 when they compete at the Midway Eagle Invitational at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington.
