WOMEN’S GOLF

The Forester women’s golf team went toe-to-toe with some of the NAIA’s best earlier this week and showed steady improvement at the Music City Classic, finishing 16th out of 21 teams April 13-14 at the Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tenn.

Huntington posted a three-round score of 951 – the lowest 54-hole team score in program history – saving its best for last with a 21-over 309 in the final round after opening with scores of 315 and 327.

Leading the charge was Magnolia Miller, who etched her name in the record books with a program-best 54-hole score of 7-over-par 223 (74-75-74). Her consistent play landed her tied for 13th in a loaded field of 105 golfers.

Grace Dill added a strong closing round to finish tied for 65th at 239 (81-82-76), while Riley Kitson followed close behind in a tie for 73rd with a 241 (81-82-78). Aniyah Copeland (79-88-81) finished tied for 88th at 248, and Madelyn Weaver rounded out the lineup in 97th at 264 (82-88-94).

The tournament field was stacked, featuring 12 Top-25 programs, with the #3 Marian Knights claiming the team title (869), followed by #1 Keiser Seahawks, #6 SCAD Atlanta Bees, #9 Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats and #10 Cumberlands Patriots (KY).

The Foresters also went up against the likes of #12 Southeastern, #13 Pikeville, #16 Lindsey Wilson, #17 Cumberland (TN), #19 Taylor, #20 Rocky Mountain, #21 Truett McConnell, #RV Freed-Hardeman, #RV Milligan and #RV Bethel (IN).

Up next, Coach Patrick Davis and the Foresters turn their focus to the Crossroads League Championships set for May 4-5 at Harrison Lake Country Club in Columbus, Ind.
