WOMEN’S TENNIS

The #4-seeded Huntington women’s tennis team saw its postseason run come to a close Wednesday morning, falling 4–1 to No. 1 Marian in the Crossroads League tournament semifinals at IWU’s Sutter Tennis Center.

Huntington showed early competitiveness in doubles play, highlighted by Isabella Herrera and Yariange Bello holding a 4–3 lead at No. 1 doubles before the match went unfinished (DNF). Marian ultimately secured the doubles point by earning wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 1–0 advantage into singles play.

In singles competition, the Foresters responded at the top of the lineup. Herrera delivered a strong performance at No. 1, earning a 6–4, 6–3 victory to even the match at 1–1.

Marian regained control from there, using its depth to secure wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles, reaching the four-point threshold to clinch the match in tournament play.

Despite the loss, Huntington’s semifinal appearance marks its deepest postseason run since the 2021–22 season. The Foresters close the year having won six of their final eight matches, including a decisive quarterfinal sweep of Bethel to advance to the semis.

HU wraps up the year with an overall record of 13-12.
