WOMEN’S TENNIS

 A weather delay may have postponed the start, but it did little to slow down the HU women’s tennis team Thursday night. Playing into the evening at Klopfenstein Courts, the Foresters turned in a commanding performance to sweep Indiana East 7-0 and improve to 2-0 on the season. 

Huntington seized control early by claiming all three doubles matches to secure the opening point. The top-flight tandem of Ashley Bucur and Yariange Bello set the tone with a dominant 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Addison Mast and Tiziana Rizzato followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2, while Carolina Rogel Castro and Abigail Beck completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 decision at the third spot. 

The Foresters carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets to complete the shutout. Mast battled through a competitive match at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-2, 7-5 victory, while Rizzato was nearly flawless at the second flight, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win. Bucur was equally impressive at No. 3 singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 decision. 

Rogel Castro added a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles, Beck picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win in the fifth position, and Coby Sander rounded out the evening with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at No. 6 to complete the Foresters’ second straight victory to open the year.

The Foresters will look to keep their unbeaten start intact on Saturday when they travel to Valparaiso, Indiana for a 4:00 p.m. matchup with Valparaiso University.
