WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The Huntington University women’s volleyball team continued one of the more impressive turnarounds in the Crossroads League on Wednesday night, sweeping Goshen College 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 inside Ruth Gunden Gym. After dropping eight of its first 10 matches to begin the season, Huntington has now won four straight matches, including three consecutive conference sweeps. 

The victory improved the Foresters to 7-9 overall and 3-2 in Crossroads League play. Overall, Huntington has reeled off four straight victories without dropping a set. 

Huntington controlled much of the night but was tested in the opening two sets. The Foresters rallied from an early 8-2 deficit in the first set before closing on a dominant run to secure a 25-16 victory. The second set proved to be more competitive as Goshen trimmed a five-point deficit to 21-20 late in the frame, but Huntington answered by winning four of the final five points to take a 2-0 match advantage. 

The Foresters left little doubt in the third set. Behind strong serving, disciplined defense and a balanced attack, Huntington raced out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back on the way to another 25-16 win. Trevyn Terry put an exclamation point on the win with a booming kill to end the match.

Sophomore Maggie Hollon, who ranks 2nd in the NAIA with 269 kills, paced the Foresters with 15 kills on the night. The Warsaw native continued her strong season and reached double figures in kills for the 15th consecutive match. 

Huntington’s offense received contributions from throughout the lineup. Liz Blackburn recorded eight kills, Allie Boyer finished with seven kills while hitting .500, and Trevyn Terry added six kills on a .364 hitting percentage. Hallie Higgs chipped in five kills and a .231 hitting percentage as the Foresters placed five players at five kills or more. 

Senior setter Lauren Ross continued her strong play directing the Forester offense, recording 33 assists while adding five kills on a .500 hitting percentage and 10 digs. Ross helped direct a Huntington offense that hit .291 for the match, including marks of .343 in the opening set and .345 in the third. 

Defensively, Jadyn Samson collected 10 digs and two service aces, while Kennedy Urban added nine digs and six assists. 

The Foresters will look to continue their momentum when they return home Saturday to host 13th ranked Taylor University for a 1:00pm contest.
