The Huntington men’s soccer team fell victim to a talented Siena Heights squad 2-1 Wednesday afternoon at O’Laughlin Stadium. The loss drops HU to 3-2 on the season while the Saints move to 2-0.

While SHU owns the series between these two squads with a 6-2-1 record, the Foresters have won two of their last three games against the Saints.

On this given night, the hosts struck first in the 16th minute. Their 1-0 advantage held through halftime and well into the second frame before adding a second goal with ten minutes remaining for what proved the game-winner.

HU’s goal came in the final four minutes when James Lighton, from 40 yards out, launched a penetrating ball into the box that Tiago Costa tracked down and tapped past the keeper to close the gap to one. Unfortunately time was not on Huntington’s side as the waning minutes came and went to leave the score at 2-1. The goal is Costa’s second in as many matches.

Dan Peregrine and Pedro Moreira split time in frame with each posting a save. Both teams fired 13 shots with four of SHU’s on target to HU’s two. Corner kicks favored the guests 8-3.

“We are all disappointed with the result and our execution today,” said Coach Russ Lawson. “We will regroup, stay together and look forward to our next match against Lawrence Tech on Saturday.”

The Foresters return to King Stadium on Saturday to host Lawrence Tech at 3:00 p.m.
