CROSS COUNTRY

The USTFCCCA has announced that sophomore Shelby Christman has been named the M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week at the NAIA level based on her performance at the GRCC Raider Invitational.

Christmas obliterated the competition Saturday on Calvin University’s course where she clocked in at 18:05. Among the field of 200 runners, she finished over 30 seconds of the second place finisher to be deemed the individual champion of the women’s 5K.

The USTFCCCA has resurrected this national weekly honor. The communications staff, at the beginning of each week, will recognize 14 collegiate cross country athletes which includes a male and female for each of the three NCAA and NJCAA divisions as well as the NAIA.

The award seeks to highlight not only the very best ties, marks and scores on a week-to-week basis, but also performances that were significant on the national landscape and/or latest in a series of strong outings. Quality of competition, suspenseful finishes and other factors also play a role in the decision.
