The HU volleyball team has strung together four straight wins with their latest over #RV Saint Xavier. The Foresters needed five sets (25-23, 22-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-11) to eventually topple the Saints Saturday afternoon at Platt Arena.
The Foresters are 5-2 this season when it comes to matches that extend to five sets.
Kortney Grimm and De’Janea Johnson had big days for HU. The pair combined for 35 of their team’s 57 kills by putting down 19 and 16 respectively. Grimm also posted nine digs and three blocks.
“Kortney was an unstoppable offensive weapon for us,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “It doesn’t matter if the other team knows where we’re setting it, they still have to defend it. She did an excellent job for us tonight.
“DJ played a very smart game offensively. She was able to mix up her shots and be effective in multiple ways.”
Morgan Robrock’s name littered the stat sheet. The junior setter tallied 48 assists, 14 digs, seven kills, three aces and three blocks.
Huntington put up a wall at the net to finish with a season-best 19 blocks as a team. Freshman middle Leah Carter led the charge with six blocks. HU’s other middle Tya Bynum was also a force at the net defensively by collecting four blocks, two of which were of the solo variety.
“I am so proud of this group of girls,” noted Herber. “This is an exciting four-game winning streak for us. I truly believe this is a turning point for us. Our girls are seeing their full potential.”
With this win, Herber and crew move to 12-14. HU is back at Platt Arena on Wednesday to host Spring Arbor at 7:00 p.m.
