VOLLEYBALL

The #12 Taylor Trojans blanked the Forester volleyball team (25-13, 25-11, 25-22) Friday night at Odle Arena to remain atop the conference standings. TU (23-5) boasts a 12-2 league record to sit in first place, a game ahead of Marian.

With the loss, Huntington (13-15) drops to 6-8 in CL action which places them seventh in the league standings.

It was a slow start for the guests as the first two sets came and went swiftly. HU was in the thick of it after that, rattling off six straight points at one point in the final set to surge ahead 9-6. The rest of the set saw several more lead changes and a handful of ties before the Trojans eventually eked out the win for the sweep.

Maisyn Robrock and Kortney Grimm each collected six kills to lead a Forester attack that struggled to get much going. Grimm was also one of HU’s top defenders with 11 digs. Layla Meyer led the match with 16 digs and also claimed a match-best three aces.

Morgan Robrock handed out 11 assists and finished with three kills while Kendyll Gebert posted six assists.

“I’m disappointed in how we let the first several points dictate the rest of the match for us,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “While I’m grateful for the third set we put together, we need to be ready to compete from start to finish.

“I thought Kendyll did a good job coming in and running the offense in the third set, and Maisyn did a good job coming in and being our only attacker to hit a positive hitting percentage.”

HU is back in the friendly confines of Platt Arena tomorrow to host Goshen at 3:00 p.m. The Foresters will honor their three seniors – Tya Bynum, Kendyll Gebert and De’Janea Johnson – before the match.
