CROSS COUNTRY

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its regional Athletes of the Year for the 2022 NAIA Cross Country season and among the list was freshman Addy Wiley.

Wiley, one of the heavy favorites heading into the 2022 NAIA Cross Country Championships later this month, was tabbed the Great Lakes Region Athlete of the Year. She won the individual title at the Crossroads League Championships last week in 17:26.

The Huntington North product is undefeated this fall with first-place finishes at the Louisville Classic and NAIA Great Lakes Challenge. Her personal best came at the Great Lakes Challenge where she clocked in at 16:57 to win by 23 seconds.

Wiley has racked up three Crossroads League Runner of the Week badges this year. She was also a two-time NAIA National Runner of the Week and M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week.

The USTFCCCA awards this honor to five females across the country based on region. Other regional winners include Jessica Kampman of Dordt (Midwest), Lina May of William Carey (South), Riley Hiebert of Saint Mary (South Central) and Sydney Little Light of Rocky Mountain (West).

Wiley and crew, ranked 11th in final national poll, received an at-large berth to the big stage on November 18 at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla. This is the HU’s fourth straight appearance at NAIA Nationals.
