MEN’S BASKETBALL
The #RV HU men’s basketball team kicked off league play Saturday afternoon with a commanding 90-59 win over Goshen at Platt Arena. With this victory, the Foresters move to 5-1 overall, 1-0 in CL action.
After passing the lead back and forth and a few ties to start the game, the Foresters finally took charge of the contest. It was Landen Jordan’s second of five dunks that finally gave the hosts a permanent 18-16 lead by the midway point of the first half.
Jordan slammed down two more over the next two minutes after which HU’s perimeter play took over. Huntington knocked down four triples in the final five minutes of the period to carry a 45-36 advantage into intermission.
The Foresters scored first in the second half to establish a double-digit advantage that stuck. They would go on to rattle off another eight points to open up a 55-36 lead. It was game over at that point. Marial Puou’s putback inside of a minute to go proved the largest lead of the day at 90-57 before Huntington settled for the 31-point victory.
As a team, Alford’s crew shot an impressive 54.7 percent (35-for-64) from the field and 80.0 percent (12-for-15) from the line. HU committed just eight miscues while handing out 17 dimes for a 2.1 assist/turnover ratio.
Zach Goodline poured in a game-best 21 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists for Huntington. Ben Humrichous added 16 points, nine from long range, to go along with five rebounds and three blocks. Jordan finished with 14 points and seven boards.
