After sweeping Saint Xavier yesterday, the Forester baseball team finished perfect on the weekend with a 10-5 win over Georgetown (8-2). HU is now 6-1 on the year.
Down 3-1 heading into the fourth, Frame’s crew unleashed for seven runs to jump on top and ride out the win. Bryce Deckman drove in HU’s first run in the second before the scoring blitz two frames later.
Twelve Foresters stepped up to the plate in the fourth to hammer out five hits while taking advantage of two walks, a hit batter and an error. Highlighting the inning was Sebastian Kuhns’ big bat. The Paris Junior College transfer belted one long for a two-run dinger in his first at bat and then singled in another run to account for three of his team’s seven runs.
Ian McCutcheon and Langston Ginder posted back-to-back singles to knock in a combined three runs while Jarret Gray rounded out HU’s scoring with a sacrifice fly. At that point it was an 8-3 ball game. The gap remained five by the end as each team scored twice in the sixth, with both of Huntington’s runs of the unearned variety.
Starting pitcher Coby Griffith earned the win on the bump for Huntington. The Ivy Tech transfer tossed the first four frames to give up seven hits, three runs and two walks while striking out four. Grant Simmons took over in the fifth to give up four hits and two hits while striking out three in three innings of relief.
Through the first seven games, the Foresters have outscored their opponents 56-17. Next up for Frame and crew is a weekend series at IU Southeast.
