Million Meal Movement
Monday evening more than 200 HU student-athletes, faculty, staff and members of the general student body and local community volunteered their time to pack 36,000 macaroni and cheese meals to be donated to United With Love food pantry in Huntington.
The Huntington University Student-Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) partnered with Million Meal Movement, an Indianapolis-based organization, for this meal-packing extravaganza to bolster efforts to serve the hungry in Huntington County.
“Our SALT team has been planning this event since October and we are so excited to see it come to fruition,” said Athletic Director Lori Culler. “The Lord has been faithful in providing both volunteers and funds to help make our ambitious goal a reality.
“The event has provided an amazing occasion to bring a diverse group of people together to support a common goal as well as to help meet a need in our local community. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve the Huntington community and pray that the impact of the event will touch many lives.”
Executive Director of United With Love Erin Didion is excited for the impact that last night’s event will have on the community. “United With Love is incredibly grateful for this generous donation from Huntington University’s Athletic Department and students!
“Inflation is on the rise and the cost of food is on the rise so these meals will go a long way to make a difference in our community. Every little bit helps, and we are excited to partner with Huntington University to share these nutritious meals with our neighbors through the food pantry and to help distribute them to other pantries in our area to spread the reach of these meals even further!”
The SALT team would like to extend a special thank you to all those who donated funds for this event: Community Foundation of Huntington County, Parkview Huntington Hospital, Huntington Optimist Club, Saint Peter’s First Community Church, Teijin Automotive Technologies, President Sherilyn Emberton, Marshall and Liz Sanders, Mark and Diann Parker, Dave and Connie Bonner, HU’s Friesen Center and HU’s Student Government Association.
