VOLLEYBALL

The #RV Pilots of Bethel University took advantage of the Huntington volleyball team’s slow start Wednesday to send their visitors home with a 3-1 loss, 25-14, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18, Wednesday night at the Wiekamp Athletic Center.

“In this conference, we cannot afford to take one or two sets to start playing at our highest level,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “Moving forward, we are committed to being the team that ‘throws the first punch.’”

The first two sets saw Herber’s crew struggle to get much going offensively, posting single digit kills each set. They turned things around in the third set by way of 15 kills and a .333 hitting percentage and then kept it close in the final set before succumbing to the loss.

Kortney Grimm and Maisyn Robrock each recorded ten kills while Leah Carter added seven. Lauren Ross and Morgan Robrock shared setting responsibilities to finish with 18 and 14 assists respectively. Defense was also a collective effort with Olivia Krahn and Layla Meyer tallying 12 and 11 digs respectively.

“I thought Lauren Ross did a great job stepping in and running the offense for us in sets three and four,” noted Herber. “Leah Carter also did a good job powering through Bethel’s strong block.”

HU (12-7, 3-5) is on the road again Friday when they head to Grace for a  7:00 p.m. matchup with the Lancers.
