PL460 — Philosophy of Religion
Philosophy of Religion (PL460) — Spring Semester, 2024:
Those of you who have not registered for PL460 — Philosophy of Religion — here are some reasons why you should consider taking this course: (1) We will work through arguments that show how you can use reason alone to show that God is real. (2) Religious experience often is said to be dubious to serve as evidence for God. However, you will get an opportunity to see how religious experience can serve as evidence for God. (3) I’ve invited the authors of the two books, our textbooks, to be my virtual guests, via Zoom, to answer questions from my students. Another philosopher will also be our virtual guest to answer questions based on an essay he has written, which we will read. These philosophers are among the world’s leading philosophers in the area of their expertise. Their names: Joshua Rasmussen (among the most creative philosophers working today), Duncan Pritchard, one of the leading figures in the theory of knowledge, who now works on philosophy of religion as well, and Harold Netland, whose work on religious pluralism and how we can tell if Christianity is the only true religion has established him as a highly respected philosopher for a long time. What will prevent a curious college student from taking such a course? And as many of you know, I’m very passionate about these topics as I’ve spent more than two decades of my life studying the topics I’ll be teaching. See you in the philosophy of religion class!
