The Huntington baseball team came up short on the road Friday afternoon at the Wildcat Baseball Field. After getting run-ruled 12-1 in seven to #RV Indiana Wesleyan, the Foresters suffered a 3-2 loss in the nightcap.

Offense was sparse for the guests in the opener. The only bright spot was Jordan Malott who collected two of HU’s three hits which included a dinger, his sixth of the season. His solo shot came in the second and proved Huntington’s only run of the contest.

IWU pushed three across the plate in their first at bat and then kept things rolling. They saved their best for last by plating five runs in the sixth to put into effect the mercy rule.

Tyler Papenbrock took the loss. He lasted five innings on the mound and gave up 13 of IWU’s 18 hits and seven runs, one of which was unearned, whiles striking out five.

Game two was a much more competitive contest with Huntington scoring both runs in the third to turn what was a 1-0 deficit into a temporary 2-1 advantage. The third of three straight hits to kick off the frame was Gregory Nolasco Berroa’s run-scoring single up the middle. Matt Wolff followed up with a sacrifice fly to complete the turnaround.

Nick Wiley went yard for the Wildcats in the fourth to draw his team even with Frame’s crew. The score remained tied until the bottom of the seventh. After reaching on an error, MJ Stavola eventually came around to score on failed pick-off attempt to end things in walk off fashion.

Graham Kollen was charged with the loss after giving up five hits, three runs and two walks while striking out eight in 6.1 innings on the bump.

HU committed an uncharacteristic five errors on the day. With these two losses, Huntington drops to 25-17 overall which includes a 19-11 CL record. The Foresters are back at IWU tomorrow for another twin bill with opening pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
