God and Ethics — Course
God and Ethics and the Meaning of Life:
I’m teaching an intermediate-level philosophy course called God and Ethics this semester. I’m writing to encourage some students to consider taking it.
In this class, we will spend a lot of time thinking about God, morality, and the meaning of life from a Christian and a secular philosophy perspective. Who does not want to know what makes life meaningful? How do God and morality relate? Many secular philosophers do not see a need for God to make sense of a moral life, but Christian philosophers make their case by saying God is the foundation of moral values. What are their arguments for their respective views? Also, we will study a debate (in our textbook) between a Christian philosopher and a secular philosopher on what makes life meaningful. The Christian philosopher argues for the view that God’s reality is essential for a meaningful life, whereas the secular philosopher argues for this worldly idea of what makes life meaningful.
You’re invited to take this course with me!
