BOWLING
The Huntington bowling teams were in action over the weekend to compete in the USBPA/Kegel Midwest Collegiate Classic at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill.
The tourney format was five team games on Saturday followed by 16 Baker games on Sunday. The field was split into two different squads with the Foresters bowling the “A” squad both days. The Kegel Classic is one of the largest tournaments of the year totaling over 100 teams between men’s and women’s programs.
The Forester women finished 29th out of 50 teams with a total score of 7008 for the weekend. Amanda Turner led HU with a 189.6 per game average to place 42nd out of 310 bowlers.
“Overall, I felt the ladies played the lanes well and did a great job with communication and bowling as a team,” stated Coach Mike Shockey. “We just couldn’t get all five bowlers in the line-up bowling well at the same time. As a team we’re headed in a good direction and will be ready for the third Crossroads tournament this Friday.”
The Huntington men took 22nd out of 56 teams by knocking down 8301 pins. The Foresters posted games of at least 200 throughout the weekend. Connor Coogan led his team with a total score of 1040 for a 208 average good for 65th place out of 376 bowlers.
“This marks the first time in a long time that as a team we averaged over 200g per game,” noted Shockey. “The guys did a great job bowling with a team-first mentality. We made really good moves and were able to strike more than enough times to be competitive.
“The one thing that was a concern was our corner pin spares. This is probably the best spare shooting teams we have ever had and hopefully this weekend was the exception.”
HU picks up play again this weekend for the third Crossroads League tournament in Jackson, Mich.
