MEN’S TENNIS

The #24 Forester men’s tennis team’s spring break is off to a fast start. After cruising past Georgetown to kick off the week, HU made quick work of #19 Coastal Georgia. Both were 4-0 decisions with play called once the win was secured.

Against the GC Tigers, after battling to a pair of 7-5 wins at #1 and #3 doubles to head into singles play with a point, the Foresters notched the next three points in straight sets with Andres Jimenez claiming a 6-2, 6-3 win over Will Barnes at #2 singles, Santiago Sarudiansky breezing past Tsugu Hirose (6-2, 6-3) at #3 singles and Martin Capdevilla knocking off Alex Stragier (7-6, 6-2) at #4 singles.

Huntington was back at it on Monday to pick off the 19th-ranked Mariners. Poncio’s crew won at #1 and #3 doubles to claim their first point after which Jimenez topped Max Kirmayr (6-4, 6-2) at #2 singles, Sarudiansky rolled past Pierre-Emmanuel Kassubeck (6-1, 6-1) at #3 singles and Capdevilla disposed of Gonzalo Tano (6-2, 6-4) at #4 singles to enjoy the upset.

The win is HU’s third over a Top 25 opponent.
