Fall Honey Harvest on Thursday!
HU’s campus honeybees have busy all summer, and now it is time for us to bring in the harvest! Join us on Thursday, September 11, from 3:00-5:30 p.m. in the Science Hall as the Hort Club hosts our Fall Honey Harvest. This is a come-and-go event, but if you help for at least an hour, then you can take home a free container filled with freshly harvested honey! Look for the party in the headhouse to the first-floor Ware Plant Science Production Facility (greenhouse). This is a family friendly event and an amazing hands-on experience!
If bees aren’t your thing, don’t worry! There aren’t be any bees present at this event! What we are doing on Thursday is more properly called a “honey extraction,” where we are cutting the comb, spinning the honey out, filtering, and bottling it. It’s all done indoors, without any honeybees present.
