MEN’S SOCCER

The Forester men’s soccer team put together another strong defensive showing Saturday night at Turner Stadium, shutting out Taylor 2–0 to notch their second win in the last three matches. The Foresters, who also blanked Goshen 5–0 earlier this month, have now recorded six shutouts this season.

Senior goalkeeper Zane Hydock anchored HU’s backline once again, tallying six saves to secure the clean sheet against a Taylor squad that managed 15 shots on the night.

The Foresters struck first just before halftime when Henry Heaney broke through with a well-placed header off a cross by Owen Lieland with six minutes remaining in the first period. The goal marked Heaney’s third of the season and gave Huntington a 1–0 advantage heading into intermission.

HU sealed the deal late in the second half when Jonathan Ruiz turned defense into offense, intercepting a pass at midfield before racing toward goal and slotting a shot past the keeper from the left side. The insurance score was also Ruiz’s third goal of the year.

With the victory, Huntington improves to 4–8–4 overall and 2–5–1 in Crossroads League play. The Foresters return home Wednesday to host Mount Vernon Nazarene in their regular season finale—a high-stakes matchup as both teams are currently tied for seventh in the league standings.
