The #RV Forester baseball team dropped a 7-6 decision to Bethel (5-20, 2-10) before handing their hosts a 5-2 loss in the nightcap of Saturday’s doubleheader at Jenkins Stadium. With this split, Huntington wraps up its four-game series with the Pilots with a 3-1 record.

On the year, Frame’s crew is 15-5 overall, 8-4 in league play.

Game one was a nine-inning affair that featured four lead changes and one tie. The Foresters scored twice in the eighth on an Owen Young two-run single and added another run in the ninth by way of a Langston Ginder RBI-double to take a 6-4 lead heading into the Pilots’ final at-bat.

Unfortunately, the hosts didn’t disappoint. With a runner on first, two outs and down to his last strike, Kawambee Moss salvaged Bethel’s rally with an infield single. The rest, as they say, was history as the Pilots would go on to draw a walk, score a pair of runs on their third base poke of frame and then plate the game-winner on an HU error for the 7-6 final.

Huntington’s first lead of the day came in the fifth when they touched home twice on a Pilot bobble after which Ian McCutcheon doubled in another run to turn their two-run deficit into a 3-2 advantage.

McCutcheon took the loss for HU having worked the ninth where he gave up three hits, three runs, one of which was unearned, and a walk while striking out two.

Mason Shinabery went the distance in the nightcap for the win to remain perfect on the year at 5-0. He surrendered seven hits, two runs and two walks while striking out nine of the 26 batters he faced.

Trailing 1-0 through the first three frames, HU came to life offensively in the fourth. Jarret Gray got his team started by launching one over the right field fence, his second dinger of the year, to knot things up at 1-1. It was the first of six hits by Frame’s crew that included RBI-singles by Camden Dice and McCutcheon. The inning also saw Ginder drive in a run with a ground out for a 4-1 advantage.

Bethel got one back in their half of the fourth but Shinabery put a kibosh to BU’s offense after that by allowing just one hit the rest of the way. McCutcheon capped off the day’s scoring with his second run-scoring base poke of the game in the sixth to pace his team at the plate. Young also finished with two hits. As a team, HU conjured up nine hits.

The Foresters have a big weekend coming up as they host #20 Taylor. The Trojans are currently undefeated in league play.
