The Huntington track and field program took a partial squad to the Lancer Invitational on Friday where the men claimed fifth and the women finished sixth. The invite served as a tune-up for the conference meet, hosted by Grace, next week.
On the women’s side, Hannah Wappes (2:21.69) and Jessica Chojnacki (2:23.04) snagged 2nd and 3rd in the 800 meters respectively. Aanyah Wright also picked up a second place finish for the Foresters in javelin with a mark of 31.52 meters. Brea Metz also earned points for HU in javelin with her sixth-place toss of 25.77 meters.
Other top eight finishes for Childs’ crew included Ingrid Gress in the 100 meters (8th, 13.01), Ashley Berndl in the 400 meters (5th, 1:05.01), Sydney Lambert in the 1500 meters (4th, 4:57.14), Saige Norris in the 1500 meters (7th, 5:02.08), Jessi Gerke in pole vault (5th, 2.45 meters), Amarachi Charles-Okezie in long jump (5th, 4.89 meters), Hannah Galbreath in hammer (6th, 35.08 meters) and the 4×400 meter relay team of Berndl, Meg McDonald, Siera Weathers, Caitlyn Fisher (4th, 4:29.55)
Two relay teams brought home first place finishes to headline the HU men. The 4×100 meter relay team of Riley Meek, Heath Atkins, Noah Bise and Dylan Felger clocked in first in 42.58. Elijah Chesterman, Josiah Sovine, Adrien Gentie and Aaron Hendryx teamed up to win the 4×800 meter relay in 8:02.71.
Bradey Gerke was also a winner for Huntington in pole vault with a mark of 4.60 meters. Riley Meek sprinted his way to 2nd place in the 200 meters in 22.80 while Blake Cooke (1.75 meters) and Caleb Smith (1.75 meters) took 5th and 6th respectively in high jump.
Other top eight finished for HU included Kyler Bourne in pole vault (4th, 4.00 meters), Robert Nabulere in the 400 meters (8th, 54.10), Haile Stutzman in the 800 meters (4th, 1:59.50), Chesterman in the 800 meters (6th, 2:01.19), Kent Yoder in the 1500 meters (5th, 4:10.50), Reece Gibson in the 1500 meters (6th, 4:13.58), Seth Parsell in javelin (5th, 40.89 meters) and hammer (6th, 39.77 meters) and Cooke in javelin (6th, 38.44 meters).
The Crossroads League Championships are slated for next Thursday and Friday at Grace.
