VOLLEYBALL

The HU volleyball team traveled up north for the Concordia Tri-Match Tuesday evening for a pair of matches. After disposing of Trinity International in four, 25-15, 22-25, 25-10, 25-19, the Foresters dropped a three-setter to Concordia, 25-21, 25-12, 25-20. The split moves Huntington to 3-3 on the year.

Against the Trojans, Anna Lewis turned in a banner performance by posting a career-best and match-high 13 kills. She was one of three Foresters to claim double-digit kills with Abby Robinson tallying 11 and De’Janea Johnson putting down ten. As a team, the Foresters racked up 50 kills against Trinity International.

Defensively, Herber’s crew was also impressive. The Foresters patrolled the net to the tune of ten blocks behind three from Lewis and 2.5 from Tya Bynum. Trinity finished with just 32 kills for the match thanks in large part to HU’s wall at the net.

Morgan Robrock established a new career-high by dishing out 39 assists in addition to collecting six kills and 16 digs. Hannah Maier enjoyed game-high dig honors with 24.

Against the host Cardinals, HU struggled to match their hosts’ offensive efficiency. Concordia finished with 42 kills and a .265 hitting percentage while Huntington tallied 25 kills and a .051 hitting percentage. Robinson and Johnson finished with six and five kills respectively while Bynum and Robrock added four apiece. Robrock handed out 19 assists and tracked down a team-best nine digs.

“Against Trinity International, we played with a relaxed intensity,” said Herber. “Our passing was consistent, which led us to run a fluid and effective offense. Each of our attackers was efficient.”

There were also things Herber took away from their loss against the Cardinals. “I loved the way we fought in set three against Concordia. They’re a solid team that prepares us well for the tough conference we are in.

“We unraveled in set two. I told the girls we have to dwell on that set enough to learn from it but then leave it in Ann Arbor. We don’t plan to have a set like that again this season.”

The Foresters have a week’s break before jumping into conference play to host Spring Arbor on September 1 at 7:00 p.m.
