MEN’S SOCCER
The HU men’s soccer team suffered a 2-0 road loss Saturday afternoon at Kerscher Stadium to a Ohio Northern squad that is now 2-1-1 on the year. It was the Foresters’ first time being shutout this fall.
While neither team generated an overabundance of offensive opportunities, it was the hosts who found a way to score in each half on the way to the clean sheet. ONU finished with nine shots, five on goal, while HU settled for eight shots with all but one on target. The Polar Bears also enjoyed a 9-3 corner kick advantage.
“We have to credit Ohio Northern. They are a very strong, organized team that is well coached and full of seniors,” said Coach Russ Lawson. “They basically took us out of what we had been doing well so there’s a frustration and disappointment about our play today.
“We felt like we were not near our best. But that’s something we will address and work on moving forward because there’s no time to waste. We have a touch match on Wednesday against #10 Indiana Tech and we know they’ll demand excellence out of us if we want the upset.”
With this loss, HU drops to 4-2 on the year. Lawson and crew play under the lights against the #10 Warriors on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
