VOLLEYBALL

The Huntington volleyball team (7-8, 2-4) hung with #16 Indiana Wesleyan in the opening set after which the Wildcats (8-1, 5-1) found their groove offensively to shoot in front of their guests for the 3-0 win, 27-25, 25-11, 25-15.

IWU posted an impressive .376 hitting percentage for the match with included hitting.481 and .438 respectively in the last two sets for what proved a pair of quick wins for the hosts to wrap up the evening.

“I was proud of how we came out strong and competed in the first set,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “We played aggressively and confidently.

“Our defense and passing struggled tonight, and IWU made quick adjustments.”

Not much came easy for Herber and crew after set one. De’Janea Johnson and Lindsay Ingenito each tallied five kills to account for ten of their team’s 22 kills. Morgan Robrock handed out 17 assists in addition to collecting seven digs and three kills.

Maddie Boomershine finished with eight digs to pace HU defensively.

Herber remains optimistic about what’s to come for her squad. “This is a great match for us to learn from, grow from and be better because of it.”

The Foresters hit the road for Indianapolis tomorrow to face #8 Marian.
