WOMEN’S SOCCER

The Forester women’s soccer team was on the attack Tuesday afternoon at Velting Field with the pay-off coming late in the game for a 1-0 win over Grace Christian when Avery Giguere sizzled the back net in the 84th minute.

Prior to Giguere’s game-winner, HU fired off 28 shots to the Tigers’ four. When all was said and done, the guests outshot their hosts 30-4 on the day. For Giguere, it was her second goal the season, the seventh of her career.

Ireland Aerni went the distance in goal, picking up two saves along the way, to log the shutout. So far this year, the Foresters have racked up four clean sheets.

Coach David Lewis liked what he saw today. “We connected our passes well today and created several good opportunities.

“We need to improve our finishing but credit Grace Christian with their defensive efforts. Megan Smith played very well holding the midfield and Avery’s goal was a composed shot. We were five minutes away from our fifth consecutive OT.”

With this win, Huntington improves to 3-2-2. Lewis and crew turn their attention to league play with a tall order on Saturday when they host #4 Spring Arbor at 1:00 p.m.
