Taylor’s offense proved potent Wednesday night at Odle Arena as made evident by a 3-0 sweep of the HU volleyball team, 25-17, 25-21, 25-18. The Trojans (20-2, 10-1) jumped from receiving votes to the No. 17 spot in the national rankings that came out this afternoon.

“Taylor’s quick offense produced a challenge for us defensively,” said Coach Kelsey Herber. “We made adjustments but give props to their team for responding with their own adjustments in regard to shots they were hitting.”

The Trojans finished with 42 kills to Huntington’s 27 and were able to string together multiple quality runs throughout the evening which included rattling off 13 straight points in the first set. The combo of a fast and efficient Taylor offense coupled with the Foresters’ 22 attacking errors explains the hosts’ three-set win. Kortney Grimm was the bright spot for Herber’s crew offensively. The rookie led the match with 13 kills and a .419 hitting percentage without making an error all evening.

Morgan Robrock directed traffic by handing out 23 assists in addition to collecting six digs. Hannah Maier and Mikailah Thompson tallied ten and nine digs respectively to take charge of the backline.

“I thought we passed well tonight, and Kortney was an effective offensive weapon from the outside,” noted Herber. “Morgan did a good job of getting her hands on every ball and providing a strong block in the front row.”

Today’s loss is the second to Taylor this season. HU is currently 8-12 overall, 3-8 in CL action. Huntington takes a break from league play this weekend to play in Rochester’s tri-match on Friday.
