WOMEN’S SOCCER
No. 6 Marian (12-2-1, 4-1-1) is one of the best teams in the nation and made that abundantly clear Saturday morning when they ran away from the Forester women’s soccer team, 10-1, at St. Vincent Field on MU’s senior day.
The Knights started their scoring frenzy just over 20 minutes into the contest and proceeded to score twice more within a five-minute span to jump out to a 3-0 advantage by the 26:27 mark. There was no looking back after that as they found back netting twice more before halftime and then added five more after break.
The Foresters broke up the shutout in the 62nd minute when Megan Smith sizzled back netting on a pass from Kalaina Stephens. The goal is Smith’s first of her HU career.
“We played ugly soccer against a very good team,” said Coach David Lewis. “A silver lining was the pass and goal combination between Kalaina and Megan.
“We aren’t a ten-goal deficit team but today we were.”
HU (3-7-3, 0-5-1) takes a break from league play on Tuesday to host Great Lakes Christian at 4:00 p.m. after which Lewis’ crew has three more CL regular season contests left in their season.
