MEN’S BASKETBALL

The HU men’s basketball team continued their tear Tuesday night by disposing of UNOH 69-55. It’s the Foresters fourth straight win in as many games with all but one a double-digit disparity.

Huntington is currently giving up just 61.5 points per game to rank 25th among their NAIA peers across the country in points allowed. Tonight was no different as their defense never wavered. After giving up just 27 points in the first half, Alford’s crew surrendered just 28 points in the final 20 minutes to make for their best defensive effort so far this season.

While the Racers (1-4) were in defensive lock down too in the opening frame to make for a 29-27 halftime score that favored HU, a chance to regroup at intermission served the hosts well as they came out firing on all cylinders.

Caleb Middlesworth drained a three on Huntington’s first possession after which Peyton West scored in transition. Ben Humrichous put the finishing touches on a 7-0 run by rattling home a dunk. Just like that, the lead was 36-27 and there was no turning back. A West old-fashioned three-point play put HU up by ten at 39-29 with 17 minutes remaining. The Foresters’ advantage never dipped to single digits after that.

Midway through the period over a 90-second spell, Landen Jordan gave Forester fans plenty to cheer about when he reeled off seven points which included a pair of dunks to make for a 54-39 contest. The gap grew to as many as 18 points before 14 points separated the two squads by game’s end.

West finished with a team-best 14 points. Humrichous added 12 points and grabbed a game-high eight boards. Middlesworth rounded out HU’s double-digit scoring with 11 points while Zach Goodline filled the stat sheet with nine points, ten assists, six rebounds and four steals.

Zach Montes topped all scorers with 21 points as the Racers’ only double-digit scorer.

HU (4-0) hits the road for the first time this weekend to face West Virginia Tech at 4:00 p.m. as part of the Terry Polston Hoops for Hope Classic at Grace.
