WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Huntington women’s basketball team took one on the chin again to suffer a 74-69 loss to IU Southeast Friday night at Platt Arena. The loss is HU’s third straight as they drop to 2-4 on the season.

While the Grenadiers enjoyed the lead more often than not, the Foresters never let their guests get too far out of sight. Each time HU threatened; however, IUSE came up with a big play whether that be a timely three, a trip to the free throw line or forcing a turnover.

The guests finished with 11 triples which accounted for half their field goals and got to the line 28 times to HU’s seven. They also caused 15 HU TOs, nine of which were steals.

The fourth proved the only quarter Huntington outscored their visitors. Most encouraging about the final ten minutes was HU’s grit. Down 60-49 early in the stanza, , the Foresters’ never-say-die attitude gave them a chance at the win. Alli Vaughn and Emily Seboe took turns trading buckets to account for eight straight points to pull their team within three at 60-57 with eight minutes remaining.

IUSE countered with a pair of threes that sandwiched two freebies by Vaughn to make for a seven-point spread. After that Seboe tag-teamed with Maddy Robrock to once again trim it to a single possession. This time around Robrock scored twice down low on either end of two long balls by Seboe. It made for a 72-69 ball game with 90 seconds remaining.

While the Foresters came up with a big defensive stop for a chance to knot things up, IUSE thwarted any sort of heroic comeback with a quick steal and layup to seal the deal.

Seboe finished with a season-best 27 points. She also tracked down ten rebounds for a double double, the first of her Huntington career. Dazia Drake added 11 points to go along with six rebounds and two steals.

Lauren Lambdin went off for 36 points to top all scorers. Karly Sweeney tossed in 13 points as IUSE’s other double-digit scorer.

The Foresters have a quick turnaround as they host IU South Bend tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
