MEN’S BASKETBALL

The HU men’s basketball team (9-3) extended their win streak to four by cruising to a 99-44 win over Simmons College of Kentucky (0-11) Tuesday evening at Platt Arena. It’s the hosts’ second straight 50+ point win with the first on Saturday when they rolled over Mount Vernon 96-46.

Freshman Landen Jordan had a breakout game by erupting for 26 points and cleaning the glass for 16 boards, both of which are career highs for the rookie forward. He finished with more offensive than defensive rebounds, missed just three shots from the floor and swiped three steals in his 25 minutes of action.

Hank Pulver also logged a double double by posting 12 points and ten rebounds. Ben Humrichous finished with 19 points and three steals, Caleb Middlesworth tossed in 13 points and collected eight rebounds while Lane Sparks added 12 points, six boards and three steals.

While HU outplayed Simmons in every statistical category, most notable was their dominance on the boards. Alford and crew piled up 30 offensive rebounds to Simmons’ 13 defensive rebounds. At the other end of the floor, Huntington corralled all but five of the Falcons’ misses. When all was said and done, the Foresters outscored their visitors 40-7 in second chance points.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to take control of the night. Fifteen seconds in, Humrichous drained a triple and 60 seconds later his putback made it a 5-0 game. By the 16:34 mark more than ten points separated the two teams at 14-3. The lead ballooned to 51-20 by the midway point with no signs of slowing down as the difference continued to swell after intermission to the tune of a 55-point difference by game’s end.

Glenn Queen posted 11 points to lead the Falcons in scoring. Huntington will make the short trip to Fort Wayne on Thursday to take on Indiana Tech at 7:00 p.m.
