SOFTBALL

Hosting Midway on Wednesday at Logansport High School, the HU softball team dropped both games, 2-1, 12-5, to move to 1-6 on the year.

The opener was a pitcher’s duel with the two squads combining for just ten hits on the afternoon. MU pitcher Madison Ludwig made it difficult for the Foresters to get much going offensively, allowing just four hits and one run, for the complete-game win.

It was senior McKyndsea Burke’s solo shot in the fifth that proved Huntington’s only run-scoring offense of the day. It was her first college dinger and countered Midway’s run in the top of the frame. An Eagle sacrifice fly in the sixth proved the game-winner as HU went hitless the rest of the way.

Despite pitching a dandy, Adelyn Harsh was charged with the loss having given up four hits, both runs and one walk while striking out three in five innings in the circle.

The nightcap was packed with more action as Huntington jumped in front in the second compliments of Audrey Barnes’ RBI-single that knocked in Abigail Reed who had walked a few batters prior. On that same play, Jenessa Hasty also touched home with some nifty baserunning as the ball was being thrown around.

Unfortunately, Midway answered swiftly and convincingly in the top of third with five runs and then added two more in the fourth to take a lead that wouldn’t be relinquished. But the Foresters didn’t go down without a fight in their half of the frame. Hasty doubled in a run and then cruised home on Courtney Mason’s blast over the left field fence to pull HU within two at 7-5.

It was all Eagles after that as they added five more insurance runs over the final three innings to pick up win #2 on the day.

Karlee Franklin took the loss for Ehler’s crew, giving up ten hits, ten runs, two of which were unearned, and two walks while striking out five in five innings of work.

Huntington is back in action this afternoon to face IU Southeast.
