Taylor (9-9, 6-1) is currently one of the hottest-hitting teams in the league with the HU softball team their latest victim Monday afternoon at Gudakunst Field. The Trojans have strung together five straight wins which includes a pair of run-rule games, 9-1, 12-1, against the Foresters.

Kiera Stacy’s two-out RBI-single in the second, the visitors only hit of the day, not only gave Huntington a 1-0 lead, but an advantage that held for three frames. Unfortunately, once Taylor clocked one out of the park to kick off their at bat in the fifth, it opened wide the flood gates as the hosts went on to score twice more in the inning.

The wheels came off for Ehler and crew after that as they not only gave up three hits, including another dinger, in the sixth but committed three blunders to the tune of six runs to put into place the mercy rule.

Karlee Franklin took the loss for the Foresters. In five innings of work, the freshman gave up seven hits, five runs and three walks while striking out six.

Just like the opener, Stacy got her team on the board first with another single to left center. This time she drove in Jocelyn Winebrenner who had reached base on an error to kick off the game. The senior catcher picked up a second hit while Audrey Barnes also logged a pair of base knocks. Courtney Mason accounted for HU’s only other hit of the day with a single in the fourth.

Taylor frontloaded the game with all 12 of their runs in the first three frames to call it quits once they got to the fifth.

Maddie Turner tossed the first 1.1 innings to be charged with the loss having given up seven hits, nine runs, only five of which were earned, and a walk while striking out two.

The Foresters (3-12, 1-5) hit the road on Friday to take on #18 Madonna.
